Evelina Cajacob
tanzen anders, Chur, 2020
For more than 25 years Evelina Cajacob has been developing a subtle and multi-layered oeuvre, which is shown in this exhibition for the first time in an overview. Together with the artist, we have made a selection of her works and conceived an exhibition that includes objects, drawings and video installations and extends over eleven rooms of the Bündner Kunstmuseum. The specific architectural situation of the new and old buildings is just as decisive for this as the subtle interplay of the various media. A chronological sequence is hardly discernible. Rather, there are focal points around which Evelina Cajacob repeatedly revolves: there are thematic series of poetic drawings as well as an interest in materials and materiality and the associated manual work; but there is also a preoccupation with overarching ideas of time, movement, repetition, which manifest themselves in drawing processes as well as in the plot of the videos. And finally, the examination of the line runs like a red thread through this work, which lends new dimensions to drawing precisely because it is not limited to the medium of drawing. In a floating lightness, the artist leads us through a fragile pictorial world that concentrates on the elemental and touches on emotional and intellectual areas of life in equal measure.
