Since it was founded over 55 years ago in 1969, Galerie m has held a firm position in the international art scene with its commitment to contemporary art. Susanne Breidenbach has owned Galerie m since 2003 and, together with her colleagues Julia Sonnenfeld-Wurthmann and Henrike Macheit, shows photography, painting, drawing, sculpture and also spatial and video installations.

Non-figurative art has always been central to the gallery's program with Richard Serra, Lee Ufan, Gotthard Graubner and Kuno Gonschior among others, today for example with the sculptures of Franka Hörnschemeyer, the objects of François Perrodin, Elisabeth Vary and Peter Wegner, as well as the paintings of Jan Wawrzyniak.
Nature and landscape also play an important role in photographs by Becher student Simone Nieweg, in drawings and video works by Evelina Cajacob and works on paper by Tanya Poole, as well as in the paintings by Caroline von Grone and the diverse works of Lena von Goedeke.

Art that focuses on socially and historically relevant themes has a long tradition at Galerie m, from Lucinda Devlin's series “The Omega Suites” to Dirk Reinartz's series “totenstill” and Stephan Schenk's tapestries “Kreuzweg”. Anja Bohnhof deals with India and the living conditions there and Melanie Manchot expresses reflections on relationships between individuals and collectives in her video-based work.

Photography is of particular interest. Galerie m shows, for example, classic dye transfers and silver gelatine prints by Evelyn Hofer and abstract compositions by Thomas Florschuetz.
We work closely with the estates of Evelyn Hofer, Barbara Köhler, Kuno Gonschior and Dirk Reinartz, whose works we show in the gallery or place in exhibitions and collections.

Our work for art
We work closely with national and international artists and estates to realize exhibitions in our gallery spaces. We also cooperate with museums and exhibition venues in Germany and abroad, thus contributing to a vibrant cultural landscape. We maintain long-term, intensive collaborations with the artists we represent. We are interested in their artistic development, which we accompany in a continuous exchange.

We provide individual and intensive support for the establishment and development of private, corporate and museum collections.
We maintain a lively loan relationship with numerous renowned exhibition venues in Germany and abroad and invest a great deal of attention in the joint planning and realization of exhibition projects. This also applies to the realization of publications, for example in long-standing cooperation with Steidl Verlag.

The history
In 2003, Susanne Breidenbach took over Galerie m, where her work began in 1985. Galerie m Fotografie, which she founded in 2000, is now part of Galerie m. Founded in 1969 by Alexander von Berswordt as a gallery for Neue Konkrete Kunst, Film, Photography and New Media, the building was planned by architect Peter Forth in 1972 and opened in 1974 as a spacious exhibition building in the park of Haus Weitmar.

In spring 2025, Galerie m will continue its activities at its new location in Duisburg.
